Which cue-tip hardness should a club or distributor buy?
Use medium as a trial starting point for general playing cues, then validate feel, chalk retention, mushrooming and maintenance with your own shafts and players. Hardness labels are not standardized across brands, so approve a physical sample and supplier reference instead of substituting by the words soft, medium or hard.
Separate playing, house and break use
Playing cues prioritize feel and repeatable cue-ball contact; high-use house cues prioritize durability and easy maintenance; break cues may use a distinctly harder construction. Keep these applications as separate order lines so staff do not install the wrong tip.
Compare the maintenance load
Softer leather can require more frequent shaping and mushroom checks, while harder tips can demand careful surface preparation to retain chalk. Actual behavior depends on material, compression, layers, installation and use, so record maintenance after a controlled trial.
Run a small sample test
Install labeled samples on matched shafts. Record initial diameter and height, installer notes, playing hours, reshaping frequency, chalk behavior, edge damage and player feedback. Recheck after the break-in period before approving a wholesale pack.
Control reorder consistency
Save the brand, model, hardness label, diameter, construction, color, batch or packaging reference and approved sample. Do not assume another supplier's medium is equivalent when replenishing club repair stock.
What should be in the RFQ?
State playing, house-cue or break use; shaft-tip diameter; preferred construction; trial quantity; packaging; private-label requirement; destination; and target reorder schedule. Final variants, MOQ and lead time should be confirmed in the quotation.
What to include in your RFQ
For a comparable quotation, send the target billiard discipline or table model, destination country, expected order quantity, intended venue, required customization and preferred delivery window. Ask the supplier to separate the standard scope, optional items, spare parts, export packing and installation support.
