Quick answer
Do not choose a replacement cue ball by color or diameter alone. Match the existing object-ball diameter, cue-ball weight behavior and the table's separation system. A standard 57.2mm ball may still fail in a return table that expects a magnetic or deliberately oversized cue ball.
Measure and identify the current system
Record the table brand and model, object-ball diameter, current cue-ball diameter and weight, and how the return separates the cue ball. Check the manual or service area for a magnet, size gate, weighted mechanism or optical/electronic detector. If the mechanism is unknown, ask the table supplier before ordering stock.
Standard and magnetic are different specifications
A magnetic cue ball can share the same nominal diameter as a standard cue ball while containing material that the table detects. Aramith, for example, lists both standard and magnetic 57.2mm cue-ball models. The shared size does not make their return behavior interchangeable.
Oversized or weighted systems need an exact match
Some legacy and commercial tables separate the cue ball by diameter or weight. An incorrectly matched ball may travel with the object balls, fail to return or play differently. Confirm the required tolerance from the table maker rather than copying a size from a marketplace listing.
Approve a sample before wholesale stock
For clubs, distributors and repair inventories, test one identified cue-ball variant in every target table family. Check return routing, roll, rebound, surface match and visual identification, then record the approved table model and cue-ball SKU for repeat orders.
Sourcing checklist
Send the supplier the table model, ball-return type, required diameter, target ball-set family, marker style, packaging quantity and whether a single sample is needed. Treat magnetic compatibility, weight and tolerance as written order fields—not assumptions.
What to include in your RFQ
For a comparable quotation, send the target billiard discipline or table model, destination country, expected order quantity, intended venue, required customization and preferred delivery window. Ask the supplier to separate the standard scope, optional items, spare parts, export packing and installation support.
